Abstract
Glomus tumors, also called paragangliomas are neoplasms that arise from extra-adrenal paraganglia, microscopic islands of cells derived from the neural crest. Although Glomus tympanicum tumors are histologically benign and slow growing, they can be locally destructive and spreading along paths of least resistance. In most cases, glomus tympanicum tumors are limited to the middle ear and preoperative embolization is frequently used to reduce intraoperative bleeding. The authors have experienced a rare case of giant glomus tumor extending into the ear canal and mastoid antrum which was completely removed using transmastoid approach without preoperative embolization.
